Seeing AI: A Talking Camera for Blind

Microsoft is providing people with visual impairment or low vision with the app that describe the world around them. With the help of machine learning, this app recognises objects, people and scan barcodes. All users need to do is click or upload the picture; this app uses facial recognition to name the people and attempts to estimate age, sex and human emotion.

Avaz: Full Featured AAC App

Avaz developed by Invention Labs is an augmentative and alternative communication app. Avaz is a picture-based application build for people with an autism spectrum disorder and other communication disorder.

Avaz has a built-in vocabulary for seven Indian languages, i.e. Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and English.

Visualfy: For Deaf People

Based on Artificial Intelligence, a unique algorithm that identifies the sound and decodes them into visual alert. Visualfy app works with its products which consist of 3 detectors and the primary device. The sensors detect the sound of home and alarm the user using different colours or customised vibrations on your smartphones or any smart device.

Inclov:

An initiative for differently-abled people to find friendship and love.

Inclov is an abbreviation of Inclusive Love. This app came in existence in 2016 with a thought of pleasant living and social acceptance for differently-abled people and is available in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages. The app features text reader and voice assistance for the people with visual impairment. “Our algorithm works on giving them a match based on age, location, lifestyle, disability type, medication and curability” -Kalyani Khona.

GnoSys:

This app translates sign language into text or speech in real-time. A Europe based start-up Evalk developed this low-cost automated sign language translation app. 

This app uses neural networks and natural language processing with various interconnecting points that simulate the brain and recognise the patterns and shapes of sign language and translate them into text or speech with the help of algorithms.

The inability can be of several kinds. The deficiency might be concerning hearing, speech, sight, or other physical disability. All of these comes with its unique difficulties, but AI is empowering people with different abilities and building a suitable environment.
